Kopakama is the longest-running coffee cooperative in Rwanda, founded in 1998. We produce award-winning, certified organic, specialty Bourbon and Jackson Arabica for the export market.
We are always looking for new partnerships to share our award-winning Rwandan Bourbon coffee.
We are in Mushubati sector, Rutsiro district, in Rwanda’s Western province, and at the divide of the great Congo and Nile rivers. It is a beautiful part of Rwanda with rolling hills and dense, green, tropical rainforest.
The aromatic flavours of our handpicked, wet-washed, and sun-dried Bourbon and Jackson varieties are wonderful. They have cherry, tangerine, and cedar notes, with a heavy aroma of blackberry, dark chocolate, and raisin. The rich body and long black tea finish carry nicely into the aftertaste.
Our coffees have won awards at the Cup of Excellence Rwanda and consistently cup at 86-89.
We are also proud of the hard-earned certifications across our coffee range including micro-lots and fully washed and natural coffees. We are certified with Rainforest Alliance/UTZ, Fairtrade, and USDA Organic.
In 2010, Kopakama established a women-produced coffee and sub-cooperative called Ejo Heza, “beautiful tomorrow”. This delicious brand has been an outstanding success. Read more about Ejo Heza.
As a cooperative, one of Kopakama’s key principles is working together for the greater good.
Our vision is to help everyone in the coffee chain, to value every single person, and ensure they are fairly rewarded for their hard work and dedication to our high-quality Bourbon coffee.
Our coffee is sold across the world in the US, UK, Switzerland, Japan, China, and Australia. We embrace trade and relationships and pride ourselves on excellent and efficient customer service.
And we love to share our exquisite Rwandan Bourbon coffee.

Lake Kivu is one of the African Great Lakes, nestled on the border of the Democratic Republic of Congo in the Albertine Rift. This vast inland lake helps create a cool, humid climate that is perfect for growing specialty coffee.
We grow our Arabica coffee on the steep slopes high above the lake at 1,480-1,900m. The wet, humid climate combined with year-round sunshine and nitrogen-rich volcanic soils, creates the smooth, clean flavours of exceptional Arabica.
